Abstract

Currently, the exterior space environments of most campus buildings in China generally suffer from deficiencies including a lack of spirit of place, insufficient campus landscape facilities, and an inability to manifest campus cultural spirit. Based on exterior space environment design theory, this paper analyzes the functional and value utilization of campus building exterior spaces, and contemplates how these spaces can achieve perfect alignment with faculty and students. Integrating research on exterior space-related theories, design strategies for campus exterior spaces are proposed to address these shortcomings, with the aim of understanding the relationship between users and exterior space and optimizing campus exterior space structure. Unifying the consistency of campus design language demonstrates the campus's distinctive spatial characteristics. This provides certain reference and guidance for modern campus exterior space design.

Abstract

Currently, most external space environments in Chinese campus architecture suffer from a pervasive lack of place spirit, insufficient landscape facilities, and an inability to express campus cultural identity. Grounded in external space environment design theory, this paper analyzes the functional utilization and value of campus building external spaces while examining how these environments can better align with the needs of faculty and students. Drawing upon relevant theoretical research on external space, the study proposes targeted design strategies to address these deficiencies, aiming to clarify the relationship between users and external space while optimizing campus spatial structure. By unifying the consistency of campus design language and showcasing its distinctive spatial characteristics, this work provides valuable references and insights for modern campus external space design.
